Meet one of the top mixtape specialists on the island of Jamaica, DJ Junky,
Dj Junky who is based in the tourist resort town of Ochi Rios Jamaica, started out as a deejay playing on Echo One System but later moved on to joined the Eagle Force team.
The sound systems life was not his style so in 2010 he decided to take a different route in the music business by doing mixtapes and he has never ever looked back.
One question which comes to everyone mind when they see or heard the name 'DJ Junky' is how did that name came about.
Junky said when he was much younger he used to clash his friends using his cell phone. He said they use to call him Junky and he just added the Deejay to it, thus came about the name 'DJ Junky'.
With sales on dancehall and reggae music down, one would wonder why he would venture in these turbulent water at this time.
Out of the love for music and the inspiration from sound systems like Black Chiney, Cash Money and Bad Influence Sound he continued on his musical journey. Junky said at one point he thought about giving up but got further motivation from Kerry-Ann Brown and Dj B Gee from Blaze 99.9fm in New Jersey.
With close to a thousand mixtapes under his belt, DJ Junky continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the mixtape business. His most successful mixtapes are 'Popcaan Nuh Shakiness', 'Gyal Settingz Vol.1' and 'Gyal Settingz Vol.2 hosted by ZJ Sparks from Zip 103 FM together they have garnered hundreds of Thousands downloads.
But it have not been smooth sailing for the upcoming Disc Jock as he has faced a number of challenges. Junky said his Mediafire, Sound Cloud and other accounts were closed out. This he said was done by people envy him in the business.
But giving up is not an option for DJ Junky as the young Disc Jocky set his eyes steady on being the top Mixtape disc jock on the island of Jamaica. His dream is to play alongside heavyweights like Major Lazer and Afro Jack.
Due to the success of his mixtapes he was invited by the management of Blaze FM 99.9 in New Jersey, there he played live on air for his fans, this led to him landing a gig at the famous Club Eclipse which is also located in New Jersey.
Fans can catch DJ Junky mixing live on these internet radios station: Starz FM, Boneyaad Radio, 1linkvibes and Jaradio.
Producing
DJ Junky recently formed the Fullforce Entertainment team, this is the producing side of his business. Their first major release is the Kriminal Instinct Riddim which is co produced by Sting G Music. Junky said they are also getting ready to release a brand new single from recording artiste Uycorn title 'Puppy Tail'. Other artiste working under his label are George P and D'koncp formerly known as Squaddy.

South African born Ricardo Nunes, better known as DJ Azuhl, has become a household name on the South African Hip Hop and DJ scene. Being introduced into hip hop culture in the mid 80s he’s progressed from a dancer to member of the iconic South African band, B.V.K (Brasse Vannie Kaap), a DJ with Africa’s iconic DJ group The Beat Bangaz (alongside Grandmaster Ready D, E-20) & now owner and founding member of the Beat Bangaz DJ Academy based in Cape Town. Known for specializing in Hip Hop, he also has the ability to move crowds across genres of music ranging from funk, soul, dub, house, rock and mashups. He also runs Beat Bangaz Radio a Cape Town based internet radio station specializing in Hip Hop music.
He has opened and performed alongside international artists like Kendrick Lamar, Mos Def, Kanye West, Jay Z, Coolio, The Whooligan, A-Trak, Black Eyed Peas to name a few while also touring Europe annually since 2007 performing at various clubs & festivals like Miami Music Conference (USA), Hip Hop Logique (France), Pukkelpop (Belgium), Schoolyard Breaks (Germany), Battle of the Year (Nigeria).
Major South South African events and festivals include ULTRA Music Festival, Rocking the Daisies, Sizzled, Back to the City, Red Bull BCOne, Cape Town International Jazz Festival, KKNK, Oppikoppie, South African Music Conference, Rand Easter Show and countless corporate and club events.
He’s signature mixes are featured on Good Hope FM and 5FM respectively - two respected commercial radio stations in South Africa, with a monthly mix slot slot on UK based radio station ’ThisisWestSide FM’ as well. Currently running Beat Bangaz Radio he also has a weekly radio show on the online platform.
Besides DJ accolades Azuhl impresses with a couple of number one singles on Good Hope FM, one of Cape Town’s biggest commercial radio stations & award nominations like the 2017 ‘Best Hip Hop single’ with Early B for the prestigious Afrikaans music award show, ‘Ghoemas.’ Whether it’s providing production, remixes or scratches for artists like YOUNGSTACPT, Proverb, Hemelbesem, Early B, Zubz he has become a sought after collaborator with expanding his scope with other music genres beside Hip Hop.
Currently he is also running an NGO with DJ Eazy, HHESA (Hip Hop Education South Africa) that’s been responsible for various international cultural exchanges since 2008 & various school projects in Cape Town with a strong emphasis on youth development using Hip Hop culture.
