Holiday cookies
I love a good chocolate chip cookie and these cookies are very similar to a good chocolate chip cookie but with candy-coated pieces instead!
I love making these during the holidays, and the colored M&Ms automatically make these so festive. Another M&M cookie recipe I have is a .
M&M candies have so many different colored pieces for different holidays, so simply switching up the colors makes these perfect for almost any holiday. I think these would also be delicious with a few of their flavored candies too. Some versions to try would be the mint-flavored ones, peanut butter or caramel!
When making a holiday cookie tray, these are great ones to include, because they are really easy cookies to make that is really loved by almost everyone!

Key ingredients
- M&M Candies - Look for the red and green colored candy pieces.
- Butter - I use salted butter. Make certain you pull out your butter before you begin baking so the butter can come to room temperature and soften up a bit.
- Sugars - Both granulated and brown sugar are used
Step by step directions
- Cream butter with sugars until light and fluffy
- Add eggs and vanilla and mix well
- Add flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well
- Fold in M&M candies
- Scoop dough onto cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 375°F oven
- When cookies come out of the oven, let them cool for one minute and then remove from cookie sheet and place on a baking rack to continue cooling
Recipe tips
- I like to use parchment paper when baking cookies. If you don't use parchment, bake on a plain ungreased cookie sheet.
- Use a cookie scoop to get evenly sized cookies
- Allow cookies to fully cool before storing in an airtight container
- Cookies are best eaten within 3-4 days after baking
- Feel free to change up the color of the M&Ms for different seasons or occasions
Frequently asked questions
Can I freeze M&M cookies?
Yes, these cookies can be frozen. Allow cookies to fully cool and then place in a freezer-safe container. Cookies are best eaten within 3 months.

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (softened to room temperature, I use salted butter)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 ¼ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups Red and Green M&M candy pieces
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°
Whip the butter with a mixer until soft and fluffy - about 2 minutes
1 cup butter
Add granulated and brown sugar and mix for 2-3 minutes more
1 cup granulated sugar, ½ cup brown sugar
Mix in eggs and vanilla
2 eggs, 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Add flour, baking soda and salt. Mix just until combined
2 ¼ cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, ¼ teaspoon salt

Bake in a preheated 375° oven 8-10 minutes
Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on baking sheet. Then remove and continue cooling on a baking rack

M&M cookies are a classic for the holidays! Robbie and I made a batch of your mini M&M cookies last year, and they didn't last long at all. I guess that means we need to make a batch of these, too!! 🙂Reply
